Poplar Lumber has creamy white sapwood and the heartwood varies from a pale yellow-brown to olive green. The green cast tends to darken and turn brown with exposure to light. Poplar Lumber (Domestic Lumber) is easy to work with and due to its low-density poplar can leave fuzzy surfaces when shaping and sanding. Finer grit sandpaper may be needed to achieve a smooth surface. Common uses of poplar: furniture, kitchen cabinets, doors, exterior trim, siding, paneling, moldings, and millwork.
