Bubinga Lumber (Imported Woods) is a prized hardwood known for its striking appearance and versatility. Its heartwood ranges from a pinkish-red to a deep reddish-brown, often adorned with darker purple or black streaks. The sapwood, in contrast, is a pale straw color. Bubinga is renowned for its diverse figure, including pommele, flamed, waterfall, quilted, mottled, and more. The wood's grain is straight to interlocked, and it has a uniform, fine to medium texture with a moderate natural luster. While generally easy to work, Bubinga Lumber can pose some challenges due to its silica content and the potential for tearout during machining. Additionally, its high density and natural oils can make gluing problematic. Despite these challenges, Bubinga turns and finishes well, making it a popular choice for veneer, inlays, fine furniture, cabinetry, turnings, and specialty items. The large size of Bubinga trees allows for the creation of natural-edge slabs, which are highly sought after for tabletops and other specialized projects.
