We have an extensive selection of wood species used in plywood and panels that you may require for your upcoming project. We take great pride in consistently exceeding expectations to offer our customers exceptional service.
Our plywood and wood panels are available in a diverse selection of species, each possessing unique characteristics to suit individual projects, including:
Alder plywood is a durable, low-density hardwood panel that is light in weight and has a straight grain. It is easy to work with and takes finishes well, often used for cabinetry, furniture, and interior trim where cost and workability are primary concerns.
Ash plywood is a strong and durable hardwood panel featuring a straight grain and a fine texture. Ash plywood is often used for furniture, flooring, and decorative paneling due to its classic look and resistance to impact.
Beech plywood is a strong and dense hardwood panel. It has a straight grain and a smooth finish, making it excellent for furniture, flooring, and components requiring high mechanical strength.
Birch plywood is a strong and versatile hardwood panel with a straight grain and fine texture. Birch plywood is often used for furniture, cabinetry, and interior trim, valued for its clean, light color and consistent surface.
Cherry plywood is a beautiful and durable hardwood panel. It has a smooth, straight grain and a rich reddish-brown color that deepens with age. Cherry plywood is often used for high-end furniture, cabinetry, and architectural doors.
Fir plywood is a softwood plywood that is light in weight and dimensionally stable. It is easy to work with and finishes well, often used for structural applications like sheathing, subflooring, and utility furniture.
Hickory plywood is a strong and heavy hardwood panel. It has a bold, straight grain and a coarse texture, often used for furniture, rugged flooring, and tool handles.
Khaya plywood is a durable African mahogany hardwood panel. It has a straight grain and a reddish-brown color, often used for furniture, cabinetry, and doors, prized as an exotic alternative to domestic mahogany.
Maple plywood is a strong and versatile hardwood panel. It has a tight, straight grain and a light-colored sapwood, making it ideal for furniture, cabinetry, and flooring where a clean, pale surface is desired.
Poplar plywood is a low-density hardwood panel that is light in weight and has a straight grain. It is easy to work with and finishes well, often used as a core material or for painted cabinetry and doors.
Red oak plywood is a strong and durable hardwood panel. It has a distinct, open grain pattern and a reddish-brown color, commonly used for furniture, flooring, and architectural paneling.
Sapele plywood is a strong and durable African hardwood panel. It features a fine, interlocked grain pattern and a rich reddish-brown color, often used for furniture, cabinetry, and doors for a sophisticated, ribbon-like appearance.
Tennessee cedar plywood is a softwood plywood known for its strength and rot-resistance. It has a straight grain and a reddish-brown color, often used for closet lining and interior applications due to its natural aromatic properties.
Walnut plywood is a beautiful and durable hardwood panel. It has a straight grain and a rich dark brown color, often used for furniture, cabinetry, and flooring where a premium, deep tone is desired.
Hardwood Plywood Grading System - Hardwood plywood grades define the quality of the veneer on the face and back, which determines the cost and final appearance:
- Face Grade (A, B, C, D): This is the quality of the visible veneer layer. A is the highest, meaning defect-free, smooth, and suitable for clear finishes. C allows for repaired defects and knots.
- Back Grade (1, 2, 3, 4): This is the quality of the veneer on the opposite side of the panel. 1 is the highest (similar to A-grade) and 4 is the lowest (allows large patches and rough knots).
- Example: A Maple A-1 panel means the face is perfect (A) and the back is nearly perfect (1). A Red Oak B-2 has a good face (B) and a usable back (2), suitable for cabinet interiors.
Plywood Core Types and Stability - The core material dictates the panel's weight, stability, and screw-holding power:
- Veneer Core (Hardwood or Softwood): The core layers are made entirely of thin wood veneers. This offers excellent strength-to-weight ratio and strong screw-holding power, especially in the face and back. However, it can have small voids (air pockets) within the core layers.
- MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) Core: The core is made of compressed wood fibers. It offers superior flatness and dimensional stability, making it ideal for thin, delicate face veneers to prevent "telegraphing." It is heavier and offers weaker screw-holding power on the edges.
- Lumber Core: The core consists of strips of solid wood (lumber) glued side-by-side, sandwiched between veneer crossbands. This is the most stable and lightest core type, offering superb screw holding and flatness, primarily used for very thick panels, tabletops, and furniture requiring high strength.
Glue Lines and Moisture Resistance - The glue used to bond the layers determines where the plywood can be used:
- Type II Glue (Moisture Resistant): This interior glue system is suitable for dry interior applications (cabinets, furniture) and can withstand a limited amount of incidental moisture. It is the most common adhesive for hardwood plywood.
- Type I Glue (Exterior/Waterproof): This exterior glue uses a phenolic resin system that is designed to withstand continuous exposure to water, heat, and humidity. It is required for marine-grade plywood and any structural plywood used outdoors or in high-moisture environments.
